Main Projects from Feb - Late Aug: Internship during pre-M.A.(Arch) Year Out

MAHA BANDULA CITY PROJECT IN YANGON, MYANMAR (MARCH - APRIL)
  • Performed research on background studies of Yangon, and on local preferences of activities in order to generate suitable public spaces for the roof (sports: Chinlone, badminton etc.)
  • Provided assistance in initial design to schematic design phases of the project.
  • Designed multistorey car park's roof plan and facilities. The roof was designed with a pleasant public space in mind; green areas, soft edges and spaces for local sports.
  • Derived design concept of car park building -'The Eternal Knot'. This design concept was subsequently used to drive the design of façade and motif used in various areas of the building .
  • Translation of design concepts of car park building into CAD files.
  • Assisted with CAD drawings of plans and elevations of surrounding buildings in project.
  • Provided a wrap-up of the project into a condensed PowerPoint file for clients.

​ROW OF SHOPHOUSES IN YANGON, MYANMAR (MID-APRIL 2014)
  • Worked on façade design for row of 8 shophouses.
  • Explored and derived possibilities of improvisations to shophouses' façades and plans.

POKKA FACTORY, MINGALADON, MYANMAR (MID-APRIL TO MAY)
  • Performed research on ideas of using PET bottles in furnishings, façades, architectural ornaments — including studies of PET bottles-wall in NEwater visitor centre, Singapore.
  • Handled and participated in the design of plans of the reception office area in the project.
  • Explored possibilities of a decorative full height bottles-wall, as the main backdrop for the Pokka factory's reception area.

ONGOING PROJECT AT CYPRESS AVENUE, SINGAPORE (MAY-AUG)
  • Served as accompanying architectural assistant on site visits, tallied data for follow-up site checks.
  • Performed follow-up site visit independently on 24/06/14 to gather clients' feedbacks.
  • Handled selection of kitchen wall tiles, colour of paint for walls, ceiling lights, selection of sink and other furnishings possibilities with suppliers and contractor on site.
  • Dealt with selection of appropriate laminates for writing desk's surface from catalogues via collection of suitable samples.
  • Edited architectural CAD files for instructions for contractor.

RESIDENTIAL PROJECT AT THA PYAY NYO STREET, YANGON, MYANMAR (JUNE)
  • Crafted urban massing model for research studies and for ease of visual comparison for boh clients and project assistants.
  • Designed a variety of different apartment types (from 2bdrm units to penthouse units) for this 8.5/9 storey residential building, containing a rooftop level which holds a pool and sky gardens. 
  • Assisted in generating design concept and name for project.

KITCHEN RENOVATION PROJECT AT UNIT #03-03, TOH TUCK GARDEN, 34 TOH TUCK ROAD
  • Collected + performed measurements of furnishings and dimensions of kitchen.
  • Explored possibilities of new kitchen layouts in CAD files ( kitchen island, floating shelves and many others).

PLAN CONSTRUCTION VIA MEASUREMENTS AT 36A CHANCERY AREA, SINGAPORE
  • Collected and performed measurements of rooms to attain set of dimensions required in manual construction of CAD plans.
  • Explored possibilities of new plan layouts in CAD files.

MAYSON BAKERY PROJECT, YANGON, MYANMAR (LATE JUNE -AUG)
  • Researched on factory production area, processes and methods and required design practices for bakery factories.
  • Explored possibilities of new plan layouts in CAD files (production area with basic bakery machineries layout). 
              *Project eventually awarded to local consultant instead.

POKKA FACTORY: ZEN OFFICE DESIGN, YANGON, MYANMAR (LATE JULY - END)
  • Performed research into Zen style + principles + visual applications of Zen design
  • Worked on achieving Zen interior style for Pokka factory office plan, a design to comfortably receive visitors and employees with views of indoor gardens. Visitors are funnelled into a spacious interior after crossing a mirror pool, and enjoy the view of indoor Zen gardens.

RESIDENTIAL PROJECT WITH COMMERCIAL PODIUM, YANGON, MYANMAR (JULY)
  • Participation in one-day design project: derived '8' shaped buildings of apartments with sky gardens occasionally appearing on alternate floors, every three floors/four floors etc.
  • (In a team of 2) After finalising on selection of best design concept, built upon this selection and explored possibilities of layouts of residential apartments atop a commerial podium with 2 car park floors. Searched for best efficient use of space to accomodate shops and apartments comfortably.

  • Research of Dawson flats (Skyview, Sky Terrace) and other buildings with sky gardens (Nouvel 18, Sky Habitat etc.)
  • Managed Office Pantry area.
  • Arranged for suppliers to explain products in catalogues.
